We just happened to find this great B&B by accident while searching for places to stay near Kaufman Stadium in Kansas City. And what a find! This 19th century historic home sits on 2 acres in Independence, Missouri, just minutes from the stadium and downtown Kansas City. The B&B owner’s Wendy & Jim Allen are absolutely wonderful and very accommodating while letting you have your space to explore the house and surrounding grounds. And Jim makes an awesome breakfast that won’t leave you hungry. We woke to the smell of fresh-baked muffins along with fruit, yogurt, quiche, and Jim’s famous fried potatoes with maple syrup.

We booked the Gallagher room, named for John Gallagher, who built the house in 1900. As you can see in the photos, there is a sitting area, desk, a queen-sized bed, and great antiques throughout the room that made it feel like you were back in the days of old.

The other rooms look just as inviting, great for a romantic getaway or group or family gatherings. You’ll want to check out their website at www.hawthornbb.com. You can book through the site as well as take a tour of the various rooms and availability.

We’ve already booked our second visit this fall in another room and oh, you’ll love the extremely soft bed linens! We liked them so much we ordered a set of our own.
