I have been to Venice twice now and plan to go back again and again if I can. It is a place that always has something new to offer, a new hidden eatery or cafe to get your morning cappuccino or a new little shop or photo opp around every corner. My first trip to Venice was with my family where we arrived at night on the dock to meet Venice with an eerie excitement. We stayed in an apartment which I suggest one does if they travel as a group or family. During the first trip, we went to the must-see sites of Venice. On my second trip, we spent a day wandering the streets of Venice taking in the local culture, food, and less known sites.

One can walk anywhere in Venice, from St Mark’s Square or the Rialto Bridge to Doge’s Palace, and walk across the Bridge of Sighs. Even without a destination getting lost in Venice is an amazing experience. Just walking the paths and corridors into a new area often offers a new find and a new beautiful site. On my first trip we often just stumbled upon restaurants and cafes for our meals and it was amazing food. Not everything has to be planned.

From my experiences in Venice, it is best to have at least a few days to take in all it has to offer. From the museums and shopping to the hidden treasures and amazing food and sites. It is hard to fit it all in just a couple of days with so much to offer. A bit of advice for those interested in visiting St Mark’s Basilica, which is a must-see, make sure you are dressed modestly, with no holes or anything overly exposed. Also, make sure you experience the historical sites and cultural sites of Venice and truly take in and appreciate it all. Whether it is the Gallerie Dell’Accademia or a small hidden mom and pop style cafe, make sure you take in the beauty of it all.
