The summer of 2013 has been hit and miss for fishing on the Shell Rock River; with weather patterns changing frequently fish have been in and out of deep pools and switching feeding habbits from day to day.
When the fishing is “on” however….its on. This day i caught 4 large northern – the largest was 34″ long weighing around 9 lbs (Pictured). The fish exired after it was landed, so we had a wonderful fish fry 2 days after it was caught. If you havent had fresh northern before – it is hands down one of the best eating fish in Iowa. Deboning the fillets is easier with fish weighing over 5 lbs – and worth the effort when you taste the flaky white meat…even in the heat of summer.
