iced-orange-cookies

I found this old-fashioned orange drop cookie recipe in an old church cookbook I have from my grandmother. Some of my best baking and cooking come from old cookbooks I’ve collected through the years. I tend to modify the recipes a little as some of the ingredients aren’t widely available. But it’s fun, and the food is absolutely delicious.

Baked orange cookies

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

Drop a rounded teaspoon full on a greased baking sheet, or I also like to use a non-stick silicone bake mat.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Watch the cookies and remove them when they start turning brown on top.
Remove the cookies from the oven, let them rest for a few minutes, then transfer to a baking rack to cool.

While the cookies are baking and cooling, you can mix the ingredients for the frosting.
Stir together in a mixing bowl the powdered sugar, orange peel, and then start adding orange juice until you get a frosting that’s smooth and not stiff.

I like to take the cooled cookies in hand, flip them over and dip them in the frosting, adding a light glaze or frosting to the cookie. Then, place the cookies back on the baking rack so the frosting sets.

If you like orange, you’re going to love this cookie. You’ll be happy to know that these cookies also freeze well.
