It was our first trip to the Sedona area and we were taken with the beauty that can come from this part of the United States. We didn’t have much time to explore, but we were able to hike through the hills and capture a few photos of the local sites. You’ll see just a sample here, however, there was so much to do and see. We flew into Phoenix and took a scenic drive to Sedona. It wasn’t that bad of a drive and the roads were all maintained. Once in Sedona we had a quick bite and then went off to explore.
I don’t have photos of this site, but be sure and visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross built into the mesa of Sedona. The Chapel was finished in 1956 and won an award for its design. Spend some time sitting in the Chapel enjoying the peace and the view.
Next, visit Montezuma Castle, a 20-room, five-level Sinagua Indian cliff dwelling built 100 feet above ground in a natural recess of a limestone cliff. Walk along the same trail that the Sinagua did 800 years ago (photo 3).
And be sure to take a few of the not-so-traveled roads to find the best places to take memorable photos.
If you have any tips on where the best places to stay, visit, or take photos — I’d love to see and hear about it.
