We visited this cathedral in November. The pictures don’t do justice to this amazing holy place. The striped white and green-black marble columns and Gothic architecture are almost mesmerizing as you stand at the front of the cathedral. There’s no flash allowed so some of the pictures are a little dark, but I tried to stay as still as possible. You’ll find many of the places of worship won’t allow photography or flash. Make sure you check the rules, usually posted when you enter the building.
This building was designed and completed between 1215 and 1263. Imagine walking and touching the same marble floors and columns that someone did that long ago. It’s also mind-blowing the precision that they were able to achieve when they built these structures. There are so many details that it’s a bit overwhelming to take it all in. I’m hopeful that someday we’ll make our way back to this gorgeous place.
