During my time in Italy, I visited Montepulciano, Italy. It’s a town not far from Siena or Pienza. A beautiful Tuscan hill town with amazing sites and food, not to mention the Brunello wine. The town is a walking town, like many in Italy, so bring your comfortable shoes. My friends and I toured the town on our own with a pocket guide of the sites to see. I suggest you pick one up that has all of the must-see towns and sites in each town.

Must-see sites

In our day venture through this lovely town, we visited The Sanctuary of San Biago, Communal Palace, Palazzo Tarugi, Santa Maria delle Grazia, among other hidden treasures along our way. These places were amazing in architecture, art, history, and definitely a must-see. Some might also know this town from the Twilight Saga: New Moon, which was filmed there.

I have to say I had the best meal of my trip to this town. I ordered the house wine (which I suggest you do, too) and spaghetti alla carbonara. I still dream about this dish. The restaurant sat high in the town and had a view of the rolling Tuscan hills. It was breathtaking. I wish I could remember the place’s name, but it was a nicer place at the top of a hill.

The BEST place we went to in Montepulciano, Italy, which made the whole day, was the Contucci Cantine. If you visit, you must talk to Adamo, an older gentleman who will share his love for wine and life with you as you taste wine and tour the place. It was so much fun and such a memorable experience.

Tips for this walkable hill town? We parked at the bottom of the town and walked up. The scenery is worth the walk. Wear comfortable shoes. Stop at the must-see sites but also take in the lesser-known gems of the town. Do not leave the town without stopping at Contucci Cantine and have your picture taken with Adamo!
