It wasn’t long before I felt the tug on the line, and I knew the start of fall walleye fishing in Iowa was here. And it was going to be a good season. This is one of four that I caught in the afternoon. It’s a nice fall walleye 18 1/2″ long. I decided to send all of them back to live another day.
I try a few different lures before I find one that catches their eyes. The lure I use most often are spoons in copper, silver, or multi-colored. I use neon grubs with painted heads and a small spinner attached. You never know what they will like today, tomorrow, or next week. It’s best to be prepared.
Walleye is a great eating white fish. It’s a freshwater fish in the perch family and native to Canada and the Northern United States. They are a yellow or gold color with a white belly and a wide mouth and sharp teeth. Be careful when you pull the lure out of its mouth. They can grow to be as much as 3 feet long and weigh up to 20 lbs. Walleye put up a fight and are fun to catch.
So, are you ready for fall walleye fishing in Iowa?
