Charming Bacharach Germany is a little town along the Rhine river, a must-see on any trip to this region. It’s only about an hour and a half drive from Frankfurt and is a great place to call home while you explore this part of Germany. You can also catch the river cruise here, and there’s a grocery to stock up on snacks and drinks and great places to eat.

Half-timbered houses line the narrow, cobblestoned streets as they wind through the old town. Most buildings were constructed before the sixteenth century and aren’t always straight and perfect, which adds to charming Bacharach Germany’s appeal.

Be sure to stop in and visit the Protestant Kirche St. Peter. You can see the red and white tower from afar. Construction began on the church in 1100 and was completed in the 14th century.

Where to eat

The Altes Haus (old house) is the oldest building in town, constructed in 1368 in the typical medieval half-timbered style. It’s home to one of the best restaurants in Bacharach, and the interior hasn’t changed much through the years. We were in Bacharach in late-September, and the crowds weren’t bad at all. We had the wiener schnitzel with potatoes. Yum!

Where to stay

We had a car on this trip, which allowed us to stay just outside of Bacharach. It was an amazing hotel at a castle with an awesome room, breakfast, bar, and restaurant. I would definitely stay at the Burg Reichenstein next time we travel to this part of Germany.

We will return to this sleepy, charming little town.
