We made these amazing sandwiches for new years and fell in love with them. The combination is wonderful and the apple is a subtle taste and not overwhelming. It’s quick, easy, and delicious. Feel free to experiment and post any modifications or additions you make. I’d love to see more sandwiches posted in this passion.
Here are the ingredients you’ll need (the amount will vary depending on how many sandwiches you need to make):
- Fresh great Italian bread sliced about 1/2 inch thick
- Good quality sliced ham. I used black forest ham.
- Provolone cheese
- Triple-crème brie cheese
- Granny Smith apple slices
- Butter to spread on the outside of the bread
- Olive oil to drizzle on the bread
Ingredients to combine and spread on the bread:
- Honey
- Stone-ground or dijon mustard (I used a little of both)
- Mayonnaise
Here’s how to put it together:
- Spread butter on the outside of both slices of bread
- Spread a layer of the honey, mustard, and mayo on the inside of the bread
- Layer slices of brie, provolone, granny smith apples, and ham the bread slice
- Top with the other slice of bread and drizzle olive oil on top
Preheat a panini press or a skillet and place the sandwich in the press or skillet. Grill the sandwich until the cheese is melted and ham is hot about 5 to 10 minutes. If you use a skillet, place a heavy pan on top of the sandwich and flip the sandwich when the bread is toasted and golden.
You’ll want to eat it right away, but be careful as the cheese can be hot!
