Pienza Italy is a quick stop while touring Tuscany. My wife and I stayed in Montepulciano but rented a car, and I’m glad we did. The roads and countryside of this area of Italy are gorgeous and fun. The owner of the Agriturismo mapped our drive through the back roads of Tuscany. This working farm had friendly and welcoming owners, comfortable rooms, and a gorgeous view. It’s close to Montepulciano so you can have dinner when you return from exploring.

The drive to Pienza

The drive was gorgeous, but what’s impressive is when you approach the town and see the late-afternoon sun hit the massive walls of Pienza built on top of a hill. There are two Churches that are gorgeous. One was being restored to its original splendor when we were there. The other looked much older and was more straightforward in its architecture. You’ll find small shops and restaurants scattered throughout the small cobblestone streets. Take your time to explore.

And, of course, while you’re in Pienza, Italy, you need to taste the Pecorino cheese. It’s what they are known for. We purchased some to take to our room back in Montepulciano. The cheese, a loaf of bread, and a bottle of wine what could be more wonderful on a fall evening in Tuscany?

I would go back to this beautiful hilltop town!
