It was by chance that we stayed in this small little hill-top town in Tuscany. We had planned to stay in Assisi, one of the towns hit by the earthquakes. Our hearts go out to the people of these towns and Italy. We had to change our plans last minute and we were fortunate to find Cetona.
This small town is quiet, friendly and a place I would definitely want to stay again. It’s a great home base if you want to venture out to other towns, such as Montepulciano, Cortona, and Siena. Each of these towns is a short drive where you can enjoy the day and then come back to Cetona for the evening. We always like to be home around dark so we’re not out driving the dark countryside too late.
It was the end of November when we visited and it was a bit chilly and rainy, but that didn’t stop us from having a wonderful time. On the first evening, we had drinks in the bar just below our hotel. The locals didn’t speak much English, but with our limited Italian and a few hand gestures we got along just fine. The people there are warm and welcoming. Along with great wine and prosecco, they gave us plates of appetizers to begin our evening.
We wandered the cobblestone streets just like many of the hill towns have. No cars are allowed and it’s a climb to the top, but well worth the walk. And at night, except for the piazza, the town is so quiet and peaceful.
Enjoy the photos, we hope to get back there again some day. Post your pictures of favorite places in Tuscany. I can’t wait to go back and would love other amazing places to visit.
