The Louvre is the world’s largest museums and houses one of the most impressive collections of art. The Louvre sits on the banks of the river Seine in Paris and has been a museum since 1793.
Prior to becoming a museum the Louvre was first built as a fortress on the orders of King Phillipe-Auguste in 1190 to protect from possible invasions from the Vikings. In the 16th century the Louvre was reconstructed as the royal palace until Louis XIV moved the royal residence to Versailles in 1793, at which time the Louvre became a museum.
I have a few photos of the exterior, but wasn’t able to get a shot of the wonderful pyramid and building at night with the lights on. If you have any images, please post them as it is a spectacular site and I’d love to see them.
If you ever get the chance to visit the Louvre, plan to spend a few days wondering the grounds and interior. You won’t be disappointed!
