Ornate rooms at the Château de Versailles are awe-inspiring. Paintings, furniture, and decorations fit for the Royal Couple fill each room.

4 rooms in the Château de Versailles

Image 1: Salon d’Noble or Salon of the Queen. Located between the antechamber of the Grand Couvert and the Queen’s bedroom. This is where the Queen would hold her circle, surrounded by the ladies of the court.

Image 2: Salon d’Mars or Mars Lounge. The guards used this room dedicated to the god of war. However, because of its location, it was used as a ballroom. The main painting on the ceiling is of Mars in a Chariot by Claude Audran.

Images 3 & 4: Salon d’Hercul or Hercules Lounge or drawing-room. Located on the first floor and connects the chapel and the north wing. Originally built as the fourth chapel. However, Louis XV had the room finished, and the room served as a ballroom. The room was completed in 1736 with the ceiling painting Apothéose d’Hercule (Apotheosis of Hercules) by François Le Moyne.

Image 5: Galerie des Glaces or The Hall of Mirrors. Probably one of the most impressive and well known of the palace. The hall served as a passageway and meeting place. The Allies and Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles in this room in 1919. 357 mirrors decorate the 17 arches opposite 17 windows that overlook the gardens. They also reflect the many chandeliers, oil paintings, and gilded sculptures.
