.The Château de Versailles Royal Bed Chambers are ornately furnished and give us a look into how the King and Queen of France lived so long ago.
The bed chambers
The people of France knew King Louis XIV as the Sun King. He had his bed-chamber moved, so he faced East toward the rising sun. The chamber is gold and silver brocade on a crimson background. The King would often eat alone in his bed-chamber by the fireplace. The King died in his chamber on September 1, 1715, after reigning France for 72 years.
The Queen’s bed-chamber (photos 1, 2, and 3) served as chambers for three queens. The favorite color of the queen was apple green. You can see the color throughout the bed-chamber in the fabrics of the wall and bed. Rioters invaded the Palace of Versailles on October 6, 1789. Marie-Antoinette escaped from them through a hidden door (photo 1), leading to other rooms of her apartment and servant rooms.
Rioters took much of the furniture from the Palace of Versailles and sold it at auction. They found some of the original pieces. Equivalent pieces replaced the rest.
