This is an easy make ahead breakfast, great for when you have family and friend over or overnight guests. It’s easy to prepare and all you have to do it pop it in the oven and hour before your guests or family get up.

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to pick up at the store if you don’t have them available:
* 8 to 10 large eggs
* 1/2 pound of cubed ham, 6 to 8 slices of bacon or 1/2 pound of sausage
* 6 to 8 slices of cheap white sandwich bread
* butter for greasing the baking dish and to butter the bread on both sides
* 2 cups whole milk
* 4 to 6 ounces of mild or sharp shredded cheddar cheese
* salt and black pepper to taste

Here’s how it all goes together:
First decide what kind of meat you want. I like spicy Italian sausage. What ever you use, brown the sausage or bacon in a fry pan. If you get ham slices or cooked ham you won’t need to brown it. If you use ham or bacon you may want to go a little lighter on the salt.

Next grease a 9 x 13 pan. I like to use a glass baking dish or one of my casserole baking dishes.

You’ll want to have softened butter for this next step. Spread butter on both sides of 6 to 8 slices of bread. The number of slices will depend on the bread you use. Place the buttered bread in the bottom of the greased pan.

Next place the meat on top of the bread. You can cube the ham or use thin slices. I break up the bacon, but you could place slices on the bread as well. The amount of meat really depends on your preference. The amount listed above is what I’ve used for one 9 x 13 pan.

In a large bowl, beat or whisk the eggs and the milk together mixing well. Pour the mixture over the bread and meat.

Sprinkle the cheese over the top and add salt and pepper.

Cover with foil and put in the refrigerator over night.

Bake uncovered at 300 degrees F. for about and hour or when the eggs are set and it’s bubbly around the edges.

Cover up with the foil again and let set for about 10 minutes. Use a knife to cut into pieces. This can serve up to 10 people but I like to make one ham and one sausage casserole and heat it up for breakfast the next few days!

Enjoy!
