One of the things I love to do is go hunting and fishing with my son. Over the past few years, here in Central Iowa, it’s been a little light on pheasants. In the fall of 2018, we were able to get out a couple of times and found a great public spot just south of Des Moines, Iowa. We took Brad’s dog, Macie, with us and it’s great to see her get “birdie” with excitement. Sometimes we go out and don’t see even a hen, but that’s ok. I love getting out with my son, it’s great exercise and I’m happy I can still get out there, walk for miles and enjoy it.
I’d love to know if you’ve found good public hunting areas, where they are located, and even a picture or two if you have them. Also, what’s your favorite pheasant hunting technique? Typically we send Macie just ahead and we walk about 30 yards apart. Macie is good at zig-zagging back and forth so we can cover a lot of ground.
Also, does anyone have any great pheasant recipes? I’m always looking for new ways to smoke, grill, or cook the days catch. If so post them in this section or even create another passion under the cooking area of the site.
Good luck in 2020!
