Chocolate devils food peppermint cookies are great cookies to make during the holidays. And the peppermint pieces add a bit of color to the otherwise brown-colored cookies. This recipe is so easy that the kids will love to help.
Here are the ingredients you’ll need to pick up at the store:
- 3/4 cup softened butter
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 small package Devil’s food instant pudding mix, dry
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 1/4 cups unbleached flour. You could substitute wheat flour if you want.
- 1 cup of crushed peppermint candies. You can use crushed candy canes or even peppermint disks.
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Here’s what you need to do:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and both sugars
- Add the eggs and the vanilla and beat just until well incorporated
- Mix in the baking soda and the flour until all of it is incorporated. Make sure you scrape the bowl a few times.
- Stir in the crushed peppermint chunks and the chocolate chips
- Roll into 1 inch balls and place on a greased baking sheet or use parchment paper instead of greasing. It also helps if you have a small cookie dough scoop, but it’s not necessary.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for 9-10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.
Pour a big glass of milk and have a cookie while they are warm and fresh!
