Want to try something a little different for an appetizer that’s herbtastic and inexpensive to make? This recipe is fantastic and makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I like to dip this bread in my red pepper hummus I make but you could dip it in anything. The Za’atar bread is amazing on it’s own so no dips necessary…I just like my dips. This recipe is also fast to make so if you are in a pinch this will work great.

You may be asking what Za’atar is. It is a Middle Eastern Spice blend, normally including sesame seeds, salt, dried sumac, oregano, basil, thyme and more. I found this spice at my local health food store but you may be able to find it at your nearest grocer. If not I suggest looking at buying it online a from a store that carries Middle Eastern foods or spices.

Za’atar Pita Bread:

Pita bread (how ever much you feel like making, mine had 5 pitas in a package)
olive oil
Za’atar spice

Lay pita bread on a baking sheet. Bake or toast in oven until they get a little crispy but not too crispy you don’t want them to break and flake apart. Just get a nice toast on them. I used the toast function on my oven and toasted them on each side for 4 minutes. You can bake them at a high heat just keep an eye on them which ever method you use.

Combine olive oil and spice till a runny paste is formed. Brush mixture onto the pita bread generously. Use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter and cut the pitas like you would a pizza.

TA DA!!! Yummy little slices of heaven.

Enjoy!
