Instantly I fell in love with Venice as I stood in St. Mark’s square (Piazza San Marco) overlooking the gondolas and the expanse of water in front of me. Directly behind me is one of the most breath-taking Basilicas in Italy. It’s remarkable to think that the present-day building finished construction in 1647, but the original dates to 828A.D. My wife and I took our three kids and son-in-law to Italy a few years ago and began our trip to Venice. We loved the seafood, narrow walkways, and of course the major sites. But what is best is to grab a glass of wine and sit and listen and get to know the Venetians.
We rented an apartment for the time we were there and absolutely loved it. It had three bedrooms a dining room, a sitting area, a kitchen, three bathrooms, and a washing machine! For a large group of people, it was perfect and in a great location.
We all agree that we will once again visit this wonderful city and explore all of the canals and passages it has to offer. Plus we didn’t have the opportunity to venture out beyond Venice to the other islands, such as Murano where the famous glass is created.
And if you’re from Italy and reading this, I truly apologize if I’ve made any mistakes.
Enjoy the photos and please share your passion with Venice!
