I have a pair of barred owls that frequent my yard. In fact, when they are not around or I can’t hear their “who-cooks-for-you” call, I miss them. However, the other day, I was taking our Maltese outside to sniff around, and other essential duties, when I looked up and saw the owl starring at our dog. He’s about the size of a rabbit, so I wonder what the owl was thinking or contemplating, so I stayed close at hand. He then looked at me, then our dog, then back to me. And when they look into your eyes, it’s the strangest sense that you get. They have the blackest deepest eyes, almost a little spooky.

I hope they stay and create a family. Other than the whistle of the far off train, there’s comfort in hearing the owl as we lie in bed at night.
